Factory Camber Tyre Wear
The SC430’s factory camber specification of approximately -1.5 degrees causes accelerated inside-edge tyre wear. This is one of the most widely complained-about issues on SC430 forums [Probable].
Symptoms
- Inside-edge tyre wear — front tyres wear the inner edge significantly faster than the outer edge [Probable]
- Premature tyre replacement — tyres may need replacing based on inner edge wear while the rest of the tread is still serviceable [Probable]
- Alignment shop says “it’s within spec” — because it is. The factory spec itself causes the wear pattern [Probable]
Cause
The factory upper control arm geometry sets front camber at approximately -1.5 degrees [Probable]. This is more aggressive negative camber than most owners need for street driving. The stock UCA has no camber adjustment — the alignment shop can only adjust within the tolerance of the eccentric bolts on other arms, which is insufficient to significantly reduce the camber angle [Probable].
Diagnosis
- Run your hand across the inner edge of the front tyres — if the inner edge is significantly more worn than the outer, factory camber is the cause
- Have an alignment done — if front camber reads around -1.5 degrees and the shop says “it’s in spec”, this is the issue
Fix
Install adjustable upper control arms to allow camber correction:
| Part | Price (April 2026) | Notes | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPC 72270 | ~$620 USD/pair | Purpose-built adjustable UCA. Well-regarded. | [Probable] |
| Mevotech CMS861207 | ~$211 AUD each | Repackaged SPC 72270 [Reported]. More accessible pricing. | [Reported] |
| Godspeed AK-091-C | Price varies | Adjustable UCA option. Less forum data available. | [Reported] |
Preferred owner-reported alignment settings (with adjustable UCAs):
| Parameter | Preferred range | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Front camber | -0.5 to -0.85 degrees | [Probable] |
| Front toe | +0.05 degrees | [Probable] |
| Rear camber | -1.0 to -1.25 degrees | [Probable] |
| Rear toe | +0.15 degrees | [Probable] |
These settings are derived from owner reports and forum consensus. They represent a balance between even tyre wear and acceptable handling [Probable]. Individual preferences and driving style may warrant different settings.
Prevention
No prevention possible with stock UCAs — the geometry is fixed. Adjustable UCAs are the only real fix.
Some owners rotate tyres more frequently to spread the wear, but this treats the symptom, not the cause.
Owner Reports
This is one of the most discussed SC430 issues on ClubLexus and other forums. Multiple owners report dramatic improvement in tyre life after fitting adjustable UCAs and dialling camber to -0.5 to -0.85 degrees [Probable]. The Mevotech CMS861207 being a repackaged SPC 72270 is reported by forum members but not officially confirmed [Reported].
